Q. What's the difference between the
Verona P.B.A. and The Verona Police
Department?
A. The Police Department is a government agency funded by
your tax dollars. It is managed by the The Chief of Police
who reports to the Town Manager and ultimately, The
Township Council. The Verona Police Department is a law
enforcement agency.
The Verona P.B.A. however, is a fraternal organization that looks after the officers of the police
department. The P.B.A. serves as the union that addresses labor issues regarding its members that
are employed with the Verona Police Department. The Verona P.B.A. Local #72 is not funded by
your tax dollars, but instead by membership dues and donations from local residents and
businesses. The Verona P.B.A. is a local entity of a larger New Jersey State P.B.A. Furthermore,
the Verona P.B.A. is not only a police union, we are committed to contributing to the community
in many ways.
Q. I have received phone calls from someone asking for a donation to a police organization such as
yours. Are these callers representing the Verona P.B.A.?
A. No! The Verona P.B.A. Local #72 will NEVER solicit donations over the telephone. These
callers most likely are not police officers. They are an outside marketing agency hired by a police
organization in order to raise money. We prefer not to raise money this way. While the calls may
be legitimate, your money will not benefit your local Verona P.B.A. The Verona P.B.A. solicits
donations only by an annual fund drive mailing.
